Where would you set up base if you were the first to arrive in the Beaver Creek area? George A. Townsend was indeed the first settler to come between 1881 and 1882. He fancied the name Avondale for this newly discovered area, which was later changed to Avon. Of all the ripe locations to choose from Mr. Townsend took up his camp at the confluence of Beaver Creek and the Eagle River. That prime location is where the Vail Valley’s newest development is located. Basecamp on Beaver Creek is uniquely situated across from the entrance to Beaver Creek resort on two of the most stunning waterways in the Vail valley.
